A cultural and tourism week reflecting the ancient cultural heritage and
abundant tourism resources of Northwest China's Shaanxi Province will be
held from March 17 to 23.
Sponsored by China Eastern Air Ltd, Shaanxi Provincial Tourism
Administration and Xi'an Municipal Tourism Administration, the week will
witness the exhibit of Shaanxi's cultural relics and the holding of its
folk performances on planes of China Eastern Air Ltd.
During the week, the organizing committee will send passengers 800,000
discounted and free entrance tickets to visitors' attractions and museums
in Shaanxi, mascots made of 30,000 ancient coins and 100,000 sets of
papercut works made by folk artists in Shaanxi, according to the Shaanxi
Provincial Tourism Administration.
Located in the middle reaches of the Yellow River, Shaanxi is one of the
birthplaces of the Chinese nation. There, early Chinese settlers
developed a great civilization comparable with that of ancient Egypt,
India and the area lying between Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
In a period of 1,100 years, 13 dynasties had Shaanxi's present provincial
capital Xi'an (which they called Chang'an) as their capital, leaving
behind a rich cultural heritage in the province. A large collection of
113,000 cultural relics unearthed in Xi'an are in the Shaanxi History
Museum.
Covering 65,000 square metres, the museum is a must for every visitor to
Xi'an.
