Microsoft to add to its investment in China
www.chinanews.cn 2005-10-12 14:48:11
Chinanews, Oct. 11 - On Oct. 10th, Microsoft continued to keep its 2002
promise of making investment in China. After it has invested US$25
million in Langchao Group, as well as US$35 million in China National
Software & Service Company Limited in conjunction with the International
Finance Corporation, Microsoft, again with its partners, invested US$15
million in Dalian Hi-Think Computer Technology Co., Ltd.
It is understood that Microsoft completed the investment of US$75 million
in a short period of several months, and people are eager to know who
will receive the remaining US$25 million. According to industry insiders,
Powerise Group and Digital China, who have already established strategic
partnerships with Microsoft, are the most likely candidates.
It is known that Dalian Hi-Think Computer Technology Co., Ltd. is a
software enterprise that pioneered entry into the Japanese market at an
early stage, and enjoys a leading role in China in the area of Japanese
software outsourcing. According to the agreement, Microsoft will start
strategic investment in Dalian Hi-Think Computer Technology Co., Ltd.,
and both will have thorough cooperation in supporting Dalian Hi-Think
Computer Technology Co., Ltd.'s software exports, technological research
and development and personnel training.
It is also known that in 2002, Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, has promised a
package investment in China totaling 6.2 billion RMB (US$790 million)
over a three year period. It included technological cooperation, hardware
manufacturing and direct investment, but the direct investment has been
making slow progress. This year is the last year for Microsoft to fulfill
its promise, therefore, Ballmer paid a surprise visit to China in June,
which finally helped to finalize the direct investment plan, totaling
around 100 million US dollars.
