Most ancient skiing contest

www.chinanews.cn 2006-01-27 15:44:41

40-odd local contestants of Mongolia and Kazak ethnic heritage took part
in an ancient skiing tournament held in Xinjiang's Altay recently. It is
learnt that herdsmen in the Altay region reserved an ancient traditional
skiing sport, in which the ski board was similar to modern ski boards but
was hand-made with white pine, horse shoe or the front fur of horse's
shank. Enjoying a history of more than 2000 years, this ski board is
reputed as the most ancient skiing tool of the world.
